Re5ident Evil: Retribution 3D (also known as Resident Evil: Retribution) is an upcoming 2012 3D science-fiction action film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It is the fifth installment in a series of film adaptations based loosely on Capcom's survival horror video game series Resident Evil and the third film to be directed by Anderson. Filming took place from October to December 2011 for a scheduled release date of September 14, 2012, following the box-office success of Resident Evil: Afterlife. It is set to be released on September 14, 2012.
Plot
The Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race's last and only hope, Alice, awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a "mind-blowing" revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. - Features plot elements from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
- The characters Leon Kennedy and Barry Burton will feature their costumes from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil.
- Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) will return in a flashback sequence which takes place after the second film.
- Ada Wong will wear the same costume she wore in Resident Evil 4. She will also be working for Wesker, keeping him updated on certain events including her mission status like in the fourth game.
- Jill Valentine is portrayed as a villian just as in Resident Evil 5. Instead of being solely a follower and inforcer however, she will be more in charge than her VG counterpart.
- Lickers will make their first appearance since Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
- Retribution is a direct sequel to the fourth film; the story does not jump ahead by months or years like the previous films. It starts right at the battle aboard the Arcadia.
- In a tweet, Milla Jovovich hinted at a "gynormous creature" appearing in the movie. Many assume that El Gigante is the monster she refers to.
- Similar to the trailers for Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, Retribution's teaser trailer is formatted similar to a commercial for another product. The teaser for Retribution begins as an advertisement for new communications technologies with a voice over (provided by Patrick Stewart similar to the trailer for Apocalypse serving as an advertisement for Regenerate and the one for Extinction starting off advertising Las Vegas.
